Johnson absolutely delivered on service and design! My husband and I were looking to remodel our entire executive apartment flat, as we now have two kids and work from home more often. Johnson understood the brief right from the start and gave us practical yet well thought through designs. We had some ideas of our own which if feasible, he’d incorporate but if impractical, he’d push back respectfully and even offered other options. When we started reno, he managed the entire project so well we didn’t have to worry much and he was regularly on site sharing updates with us. I’d absolutely recommend HDA as well as Johnson if you want a practical yet beautiful looking home which gives you that canvas to chart your life onwards. I wanted my interior designer to have a good mix of 1) project management (as we were on a tight timeline. I also didn’t want to have to worry about workmanship) and design capabilities (both aesthetics and functional). Johnson was stellar on all these aspects. I got to know of HDA from a friend who engaged them previously. After meeting 9 other IDs, I decided to go with HDA because Ray (my first HDA ID) did the best space layout for my tiny home and I vibed with him the most. He gave design inputs and tolerated my many musings over half a year until I collected my keys. The project was handed over to Koon who further improved the design and did the project management work throughout the entire construction. Apparently people have had bad experiences when IDs change midway. Thankfully not for me! Koon was very communicative, meticulous and shared photo and video updates throughout, which was reassuring since I couldn’t be present all the time. He also gave suggestions on how to make the space look more cohesive. Bonus: he’s very hands on when it comes to fixing, cleaning and touching stuff up. When the contractors did a shoddy job, I could count on him to ensure things were fixed. This is extremely important when it comes to the defect rectification stage; he’s definitely not one who skirts the topic or tries to gloss things over. As long as it’s highlighted to him, he always tries his best to ensure it’s fixed. Overall, I had a positive experience with HDA. There were minor hiccups along the way but happy to say that they were fixed eventually.

Happe Design Atelier (HDA) wasn't my first choice when selecting an interior designer (ID) for my new home, but I'm extremely glad I eventually selected them. HDA were shortlisted when searching for IDs, and I was impressed by their attention to detail and thoughtfulness during our initial meetings, demonstrating greater consideration and more astute insights than the other ID firms I'd met. . The ID assigned was Johnson Ng. While I had a relatively clear vision of what I wanted, he offered sound advice, and his design was both practical and aligned with my vision - of a minimalist place with clean lines and clever storage, yet unique with soft curves and a timeless feel. . Renovation project planning was done in close consultation, with the renovation timeline over 1.5 months. During the renovation, Johnson managed the contractors (carpentry, electrical) well, ensuring quality and accuracy of build and installation. He also helped coordinate with suppliers, movers, and my condo management. Updates were provided regularly and supported with video and photo evidence. Almost felt I didn't have to worry about anything, very reassuring. . Documentation for each stage was compiled and shared via Google drive. Invoicing was clear and transparent, supported with details of line items, and payment receipts were issued promptly. Amazingly, my renovation was completed in a timely manner, and delivered on the vision planned - no delays at all. I highly recommend Happe Design Atelier (HDA), and will engage them for future renovation projects.

We are writing this testimonial in appreciation of Jacob’s professional services rendered towards the design and renovation works executed on our resale maisonette. Prior to appointing Jacob as our ID, we had two disappointing experiences with IDs from our last two homes; one failed to deliver as per contract and the other, lacking in accountability and customer service. Hence, we took this selection process more seriously than ever before. We met up with 5 shortlisted IDs and eventually confirmed Jacob’s engagement as our interior designer. He was the first to make contact, impressed us during the first meeting with a warm and sincere personality, and importantly he came prepared for the meeting based on our requirements and budget. Jacob is truly a breath of fresh air. He took us through an elaborate design process, while understanding our preferences and implementing his design flair to bring out the best representation of what we really desire for our forever home. At the same time, he was aware of our budget and did his utmost best to ensure our expectations were well managed throughout the process. Jacob is undoubtedly our rain or shine guy. Incredibly reliable and super prompt; in fact too prompt in his replies that we had to ask him to prioritise his rest sometimes. He never failed to submit a weekly progress report and thanks to his immaculate planning, the renovation work flow and management of his contractors were flawlessly well executed. From the way we observe Jacob’s communication with his suppliers we know for sure they will be more motivated to deliver their best for the deliverables in electrical work, carpentry, etc. Even when we encountered frustrations delay due to approval for wall hacking from HDB which stalled our progress for months, Jacob was right there with us every step of the way, providing us with practical advice and sourcing the best alternative to expedite and further generate new ideas for our home design. Jacob’s work ethics are truly a representation of his unparalleled dedication and commitment to excellence. Even though it took us nearly 5 months to finally arrive at the completion of our beautiful and stunning forever home, it was well worth it, knowing we had entrusted this home into the hands of one of the best in this industry. In summary, we didn’t just get the home we always dreamed of with the help of Jacob, but in him we have also made a new lifetime friend. Go J! Keep excelling and doing what you do best!

Deciding to go with HDA as our ID firm was by no means an easy decision, because they were up against a more established company who was offering comparable quality for a more economical price, but eventually the design sensibilities and sincerity of HDA’s ID, Jacob Low, won us over. Jacob stoically went through a whopping eight iterations of his design proposal with us, patiently incorporating our inputs in each permutation. No other firm we approached came close to this number, and in this aspect we were quite impressed by the level of professionalism and dedication Jacob had for his craft. We also liked that there were no strict limits placed on the number of 3D renderings we could have, and that enabled very in-depth and fruitful discussions. Jacob has a very collaborative style, and while he may try to nudge us towards an idea or layout, he is always respectful of our wishes and works with them as far as possible. There have been occasions where I had to back-pedal on something I insisted on – and he had reservations about – after seeing it on plan. This can be a time-consuming process at times, but ultimately makes us feel heard and minimises the risk of regret after making our decision. Jacob took our lifestyle needs into account – the fact that we have young children and an old furkid – and worked these into his designs, down to the small details like how best to mount our tv so that the safety of our children is ensured. I also appreciated the fact that he took our mutual appreciation of animator Hayao Miyazaki and ran with it, adding and suggesting touches of whimsy my husband and I would not have otherwise considered, or considered but did not have the courage to try out. Those refreshing little touches are now one of my favourite details of our new home. We also relied heavily on him to guide us in our colour scheme during furniture shopping, noobs that we are, and can safely say that each time his recommendations had been spot-on. That said, sometimes practicality and function have to come before aesthetics, and in this regard he also gave great suggestions. While an industrious and creative ID like Jacob tends to be very time-strapped, he will nevertheless answer phone calls and reply text messages promptly (or have a very good reason why he didn’t immediately respond). One rather embarrassing but iconic example of this was the time when I broke down mid-phone conversation with him, over a detail that had been overlooked and was in danger of causing a delay to the whole project, and he raced over in the rain to assess the situation and assure me that all would be okay, and indeed everything turned out fine in the end, all thanks to him. His sense of responsibility extends to after the project has concluded – as I type this, he is still diligently helping us follow up on some rectification work with our carpenters and electricians. We have been very fortunate to have worked with Jacob on our new home. His passion for his work shines through even on tight timelines, and if I had to do it all over again, I would definitely choose to work with Jacob in a heartbeat. He is without a doubt a gem and asset to HDA, someone I would recommend to my friends and family.
