How to Replace your Bedroom Door Knob in 10 mins!

Most homeowners are unaware that replacing an old or faulty bedroom doorknob is not an expensive affair. In fact, with the right tools and knowledge, you can easily replace the doorknob yourself within minutes without your locksmith!
Read on to find out how simple it is to replace a cylindrical doorknob, which is actually typically installed in most HDB flats.
Tools needed
01. 2 x Flat-head screw driver 02. New cylindrical door knob 03. Wood filler 04. 1 x Sharp object
Step 1. Understand the cylindrical doorknob
Remember to check out the anatomy of the cylindrical doorknob before you start to replace the doorknob.
Step 2. Remove the old cylindrical doorknob
Step 2.1: Use a sharp object to release the interior door knob's (the one located inside the bedroom) catch through the slot (small hole), which is located at the side of the shank.
Step 2.2: Take out the interior door knob completely to expose the lock button.
Step 2.3: Take out both screws located at the top and bottom of the flat plate with the flat-head screwdriver.
Step 2.4: Remove the rose plate with the screwdriver to expose the mounting plate.
Step 2.5: Remove the screws from the mounting plate with the screwdriver to expose the cylinder tumbler.
Step 2.6: Loosen the latch assembly with the screwdrivers.
Step 2.7: Pop open the flat plate, the latch assembly and the exterior knob will loosen at the same time.
Step 2.8: Ensure that there are no other parts left behind the wooden door.
Step 2.9: Use the wood filler to make good the wooden door.
Step 3. Install the new cylindrical doorknob
Step 3.1: Remove the new cylindrical doorknob from its packaging and use a sharp object to release the interior door knob's catch through the slot, which is located at the side of the shank.
Step 3.2: Place the exterior knob and its cylinder tumbler through the hole and hold it in place.
Step 3.3: Secure the latch assembly and face plate together with screws with the flat-head screwdriver.
Step 3.4: Screw the mounting plate securely with the flat-head screwdriver.
Step 3.4: Install the rose plate the flat-head screwdriver by pushing it onto the mounting plate.
Step 3.5: Install the interior knob by pushing it onto the rose plate.
Step 3.6: Test the newly installed cylindrical door knob by turning it, locking it and unlocking it to see if it is installed properly.
Tips: Do not over-tighten the screws or the door knob will be hard to uninstall in future.
This simple DIY door knob replacement will only take you roughly around 10 minutes, and you are going to be pleasantly surprised that this is one of the easiest home DIY improvements which you have ever done! :)
