A Hidden Furniture Paradise

Furniture shopping is an interesting aspect to many new homeowners alike. We were no exception. It was a much anticipated phase for us as well. Who doesn’t like buying new stuff to decorate their house with? We decided to get started with a couple of the biggest furniture items in the house — the sofa and dining table. Our search, both online and off, brought us to Danish Design, so off we went one sunny Saturday to their showroom nestled in the Pasir Panjang area!

It was a pleasant surprise to see the spacious and airy high-ceiling showroom despite the humble surroundings of a light industrial area.

Karl and Shu May (the staff in-charge) then introduced themselves and the company to us. Danish Design has apparently been around for 9 years and is a well-established furnishing company that offers a slice of Scandinavian and Danish design heaven to Singapore. Before Scandinavian designs started becoming hugely popular, the only place people would think of when such designs were mentioned was Ikea. Through our chat, we showed them our 3D drawings and told them the various dimensions we wanted. We intended to do light entertaining in our home and wanted something that was easy to maintain. We also (unglamorously) confessed how we were total noobs at choosing materials and were excited to see everything that could fit in our eclectic Scan-dustrial home.

After much deliberation, we present the Eilersen Playground sofa!

5 Different Configurations of the Eilersen Playground

The instant Shu May introduced this sofa to us, we fell in love. We were sold by the fact that we could configure it however we liked just by moving the centre divider to make it cater to between two to eight people. Plus, there were so many colours and materials to choose from. It was mind boggling.

Shu May went on to explain the fabrics and leathers we could choose from. She also pointed out that all the materials were tested for wear and durability. We could also customise the colours of the cushions for a small fee. Eventually, we chose a fabric that had a high percentage of cotton, which would feel cooler in the hot Singapore climate. We also customised the cushions to a light mint colour. The best thing about this sofa is that its design is timeless and the covers can be removed for dry-cleaning! This also means that if we won the lottery down the road, we could change the upholstery to leather and voila! New sofa!

We also decided on this Oak dining table, which has been receiving many compliments from our guests so far. It comes with 2 extension leaves that can boost the table’s length to a maximum of 3m. One person can do this. Alone. Sold.

My husband’s favourite buy would have to be the Trinidad chairs by Federicia. They are super comfy and have vents in their unique fan-shaped backing to keep one cool. You feel as though you’re being hugged and are very well-supported when seated. We chose these chairs in a few more different colours and are patiently waiting for them to arrive.

Since we’re on the topic of chairs, did we mention that they offered us loan chairs and sofas in the midst of our shifting? How sweet, right? This means you don’t have to sit on the floor and can start organising your awesome dinner parties! The loan chairs were not exactly what we ordered but they were a good tradeoff compared to using the floor. Do pop by the store for a visit if you are looking for good quality furniture with outstanding design. I think there is hardly any room for disappointment.
