HDB Interior Design for HDB Flats
- Jun 3, 2013
Singapore's Housing and Development Board (HDB) offers a wide variety of HDB flats. These flats accommodate any budget and any homeowner from a range of income brackets. Singapore's HDB flat is for Singaporeans to have quality and affordable housing. Flats can range from simple one bedroom ones to large executive flats. They are distinctly more affordable then condo units. If you plan to get your own HDB flat or if you already have one, there are a few things you should note about HDB interior design.
- HDB offers six types of flats currently. The studio apartment is the smallest in floor area; two room flats, three room flats, four room flats, five room flats and executive flats. Your HDB interior design should suit which type of flat you plan to buy or own.
- Studio type flats are designed for bachelors and are cost-efficient. They come with 30 year leases, in case the bachelor decides he wants a bigger flat for his family. They are also more conveniently located – they are near transportation networks, shopping places and food places. HDB renovation for studio flats is easy as they only have 35 and 45 square metre variations.
- The 2, 3, 4, and 5-room flats have floor areas that range from 45 square metres to 110 square metres. You can be more creative with the HDB renovation due to the bigger space. The executive flat has a floor area of 130 square metres, and it also includes a study room.
- For HDB interior design or renovations, remember to hire only HDB registered renovation contractors. You can find a list on the HDB website. They have a long list of renovation contractors for your picking. Hiring a non-registered renovation contractor to do your HDB works will result in penalties of $5,000.
