FEATURED DESIGNER: Sky Creation
- Sep 6, 2017
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In this mini-series, we shine the spotlight on three interior design firms. What do they have in common? A long and well established history in the local interior design scene and an incredible portfolio of works. In part two of our series, we turn to Sky Creation, an integrated space-solution consulting company that has a wide variety of services and products, ranging from interior design services and furniture production to a design academy and an interior design themed café.
1. Hi Sky, you have come a long way! Tell us about your back story.
Like many others, I began my journey by working for others. But then I saw that there was an issue with the business model in many design firms. It was based on a very conventional mind-set that didn’t have the potential to go far. There was also a lack of quality control and consistency in the industry and no effort was made to maintain standards. I wanted to effect change in these aspects, and it was only possible if I did it on my own terms and in my own turf, which was why I decided to come out on my own.2. What makes your firm different from others?
Our resources go beyond that in Singapore as we have offices overseas. That not only helps us to be price competitive, it has also allowed us to make use of a wider range of materials that are not usually available locally. It gives our homeowners more quality choices. In addition to resources, our frequent exposure to overseas markets has opened the creativity and minds of our designers. We are constantly inspired from what we see internationally and we are translating that into new designs and trends for our customers.3. Speaking of trends, how have trends changed in Singapore?
Trends come and go really fast, even more so in today’s age of social media. Scandinavian and industrial design have had a good long run, but I think they are on the wane.4. What advice can you give homeowners with regards to the renovation process and when it comes to finding an interior designer?
Price isn’t everything! You may get the cheapest, but if it isn’t what you want, then you shouldn’t settle because your home design is an important and worthy investment. When it comes to finding an interior designer, make sure you check a firm’s record. Ensure that it’s an established firm and preferably RCMA-accredited. A RCMA (Renovation Contractors and Material Suppliers Association)-accredited firm has gone through stringent checks and a list of criteria before it gets accepted, so you are most likely in good hands.
