DIY Your Christmas Lantern for your Loved One

What You Need: Can be purchased from Angie’s 1 piece of 'Little Sophy' luncheon napkin @ $1.00/piece 1 Squeegee/Scraper @ $10.00 to remove any creases Acrylic Varnish @ $8.00 for 80ml

Can be purchased from Artfriend Deko Paste @ $11.98 for 118ml Mod Podge Matt @ $6.85 for 236ml

Can be purchased from IKEA Lantern for Tea Light Candle @ $7.90

Time Required 5 hours

Step 1 and Step 1.1 Cut out the girl image from the Art Paper (I have photocopied a napkin image onto Art Paper for the purpose of decoupaging on glass)

Step 2 Apply a layer of Mod Podge Matt onto the back of the cut out image.

Step 3 and Step 3.1 Stick the cut-out image onto one of the glass panels on the lantern. Use a squeegee to make sure there are no creases and also that the image is properly stuck onto the glass. You may need to add some more Mod Podge to the edges to stick it firmly down. Dry with a hairdryer. Repeat Steps 1-3 with the bird image on the opposite side glass panel.

Step 4 Cut out the bird images from the 'Little Sophy' luncheon napkin.

Step 5 Remove the 2 layers of napkin from the cut-out napkin, leaving only the topmost layer with the bird images.

Step 6 Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge Matt on the top of the lantern and gently put the cut-out birds image on top of the Mod Podge. Use a squeegee to remove all creases carefully making sure not to tear any part as the Mod Podge Matt is still wet. Dry with a hairdryer.

Step 7 Apply another thin layer of Mod Podge Matt on the top of the image gently and dry with a hairdryer. Use a squeegee to remove all creases. Repeat Steps 4-7 until the whole top is covered with bird images.

Step 8 Varnish the bird images with acrylic varnish (3 coats) drying in between each coat with a hairdryer. The images on the glass panels need not be varnished.

Step 9, Step 9.1 and Step 9.2 Using a spatula, apply Deko Paste with glitter to the top of the lantern. Use a toothpick or your fingers to gently tap on the paste to make it look like natural snow.
