Buying a refrigerator is more than just picking the best-looking one. There are many other factors that will influence your final decision too, so let us look at the various types of refrigerators you can find out there. The most common one is the traditional type where the freezer is at the top while the refrigerator is at the bottom. Others have the freezer located below the refrigerator component. Then there are also the side-by-side refrigerators where the freezer is on the left and the refrigerator takes up residence on the right.  

Refrigerator: Top freezer

Pros:

• Takes up little floor space • Most economical and popular with homeowners • Numerous styles to choose from

Cons:

• May be difficult to reach for food stored in the back of the freezer  

Refrigerator: Bottom freezer

Pros:

• The freezer is at the bottom so it's easier to reach for the frozen food. • Comes with two types of freezer doors—drawer or swing door • Comes with an economical price tag and takes up little floor space

Cons:

• Fewer styles available in the market  

Refrigerator: Side-by-side

Pros:

• Great for narrow kitchens since the doors don't need much clearance • Lots of door storage space • Bigger freezer capacity and easier access • Comes with water and ice dispensers

Cons:

• The limited size of the freezer section may prevent you from storing food that take up horizontal • • space e.g. large pizza. • Additional repairs may be required for the water and ice dispensers.  

Refrigerator: French doors

Pros:

• Has wide shelves that allow storage of large items such as platters and plenty of door storage space, at a convenient eye-level • Conserves energy as you only need to open 1 door to access the food • Most stylish in the market, some models even come with 2 freezer drawers • Comes with water and ice dispenserss

Cons:

• Usually the most costly • Additional repairs may be required for the water and ice dispensers.
